Las Capillas se construyeron en las naves laterales de la Colegiata , realizadas en distintas épocas y por familias nobles de Belmonte. Cada familia, se construía su capilla para enterrarse en ellas. Contaban con capellán, monaguillos, etc. Por que se decía Misa diaria en cada una de ellas. Dentro de las citadas capillas, podemos destacar algunas, como la Capilla de la Anunciación, la Capilla Mayor, la Capilla de San Pedro y San Pablo, o la Capilla de Santiago. Destaca de una forma muy importante, nuestro Coro. Obra de Egas Cueman y Hanequín en 1.452. El mas antiguo de toda España. Seguidamente pueden leer una reseña de cada una de las Capillas.

It
was founded by Fray Luis Dávila in 1.591. The Baptismal font is a
beautiful stone specimen of the fifteenth century which was carved by
the brothers Egas Cueman and Hanequín of Brussels. Fray Luis
de León, San Juan del Castillo or the descendants of D. Juan Pacheco,
Marquis of Villena, were christened here. On the left, a canvas of Ntra. Señora del Pópulo
Romano brought from Rome
in 1.591.
Fundada por D. Juan de León tío-abuelo de Fray
Luis de León. Arquitectura gótica y decoración plateresca, realizada por Francisco
de Luna y Pedro de Alvíz. Retablo plateresco de 1.546, obra de Diego
de Tiedra. Enfrente, a la derecha el Entierro de Cristo S. XVI donde
están sepultados los abuelos de Fray Luis de León en 1.570. La reja es
obra de Hernando de Arenas rejero de la Catedral de Cuenca en 1.537.
It
was founded by Mr. Juan de León, the great-uncle of Fray Luis de León.
It is made in Gothic architecture and plateresque decoration by Francisco de
Luna and Pedro de Alvíz. The plateresque altarpiece of 1.546 was
carved by Diego de Tiedra. Just in front we see the “Burial of
Christ" S. VI where the grandparents of Fray Luis de León were buried
in 1.570. The fence is an ironwork of Hernando de Arenas, master
ronworker of the Cathedral of Cuenca in 1.537.
3-CAPILLA
DE LA INMACULADA

Founder:
Mr. Juan Cisneros (A nobleman born in Belmonte). The architecture
was carried out by Juan de Homa in 1.518. To the right we found
the altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception of María, painting on board
of Flemish style of 1.522 made by Juan de Burgundy. The facing
sculpture of Christ tied to the Column was made by Francisco Salzillo
in 1.752. The ironwork of the fence was made by Juan Francés master
ironworker of the Cathedral of Toledo.

Founder:
Mr. Diego de Hinestrosa, (Abbot of the Collegiate Church). It has a
Churrigueresco style altarpiece of 1.719 and an exquisite ornamental
richness. On the left there are two arches with the images of La Borriquilla and
San Pedro cutting the ear to Malco, work of Leonardo Martínez Bueno in
1.944. On the right there is a 15th century Flemish Calvary . The ironwork of the fence was also made by Juan
Francés (master ironworker of the Cathedral of Toledo in 1.500).

Founder:
Mr. Gabriel Vázquez, mid-16th century. We find a Renaissance
altarpiece of polychrome stone with a beautiful canvas of St. Miguel
Arcangel who is dressed as a warrior with the wings unfolded and clothes in
the wind. This painting is attributed to Bartolomé Matarana, an excellent
Italian painter.

Founder:
Mr. Jerónimo de Guedeja in 1.560. Designed and made in
Plateresque style by Esteban Jamete. It shows a Plateresque altarpiece
of the Purification of the Virgin by Giraldo de Flugo. The fence is an
ironwork of Hernando de Arenas of 1.572.
7-CAPILLA
DE LA STMA. TRINIDAD

Its
primitive occupant was St. Catalina de Alejandría whose image is
represented in the keystone. In 1.594 it is changed and dedicated to the
Holy Trinity, with a magnificent canvas of the great Genoese painter Bartolomé
de Matarana. It was dated in 1.595.
8-CAPILLA MAYOR

With
polygonal design, cross vaults, and Gothic-Toledan style, it was made by
Egas Cueman and his brother Hanequin in the 15th century.
There are four funeral sculptures. Left side, Juan Fernández Pacheco and
Inés Téllez de Meneses and right side, Juan Téllez Girón and María
Pacheco. They are the maternal grandparents and parents of Juan Pacheco,
I Marquis of Villena. The altarpiece of San Bartolomé was made by Hernando
de Espinosa in 1.619 and it was finished by Gregorio Quintana in
1.667.
9-CAPILLA
DEL STMO. CRISTO DE LOS PELIGROS

Founders:
The village of
Belmonte and the
collegiate church chapter in 1.715, for the image of the Crucified
Christ of ivory, of great devotion in Belmonte. He arrived from the Philippines
as a gift to the Prior General of the Augustinians, a native of Belmonte.
The fence was made by Izquierdo in 1.723, a native of Pedro Muñoz, (C.
Real).
Puede ser uno de los mejores
lienzos de la Colegiata ,
es Nuestra Señora de la
Antigua. Traída por un belmonteño, Cristóbal del Castillo en
1.601, copia del original, en la Catedral de Sevilla.
It
is possibly one of the best canvases of the Collegiate church, it is Nuestra
Señora de la Antigua. It was brought by Belmonte native, Cristóbal del Castillo, in 1.601.
It is a copy of the original of the Cathedral of Seville.
11-ALTAR
DE S. JUAN DEL CASTILLO
S. Juan del Castillo, Santo nacido en
Belmonte, el primero nacido en la provincia de Cuenca. Mártir en Paraguay y canonizado
por el Papa Juan Pablo II junto a sus compañeros S. Roque González y
Alonso Rodríguez, el 16 de Mayo de 1988.
Saint
Juan del Castillo was born in Belmonte, the
first Saint born in the province. He was martyr in Paraguay and he was canonized by
the Pope Juan Pablo II, with his colleagues S. Roque González and Alonso
Rodríguez, on May 16, 1.988.
12- CAPILLA DE
S. JUAN BAUTISTA

Founder:
Mr. Diego Muñoz in 1.451. Gothic-style chapel. On the left, we
find the portable altarpiece of the Marquis of Villena of Flemish style
of the XV century and dedicated to St. Juan Bautista On the right,
we see the altarpiece of “La cátedra de San Pedro” of 1.506,
which is a work of Juan Gómez. The chapel is closed by a Gothic fence
which is crowned with pointed flower decoration, (1.451).
13-CAPILLA DE LA
ASUNCIÓN

Founder:
Mr. Gregorio Osorio. The vault of this chapel is the only one of
the San Bartolomé hurch of Belmonte of cut orange shape. The Baroque altarpiece
is dedicated to the Virgen de los Remedios and it was made in 1.741 by
Pedro Fernández, disciple of Jaime Bort, the author of the portal of he Cathedral
of Murcia. The fence is a Sebastián Lemosín’s ironwork who worked in
the Cathedral of Cuenca in 1.545.
14-CAPILLA DE SANTIAGO

Founders:
Mr. Francisco de Espinosa and his wife Mrs. Catalina de Hervias
in 1.558. The architecture is the work of the great Andrés de
Vandelvira, under Renaissance influences. The altarpiece is dedicated to
the Apostle Santiago was made by Pedro de Villadiego in the XVI
century. The magnificent fence is an Hernando de Arenas ironwork
(master fence crafter of the Cathedral of Cuenca).
15-CAPILLA DEL STO. SEPULCRO

This
chapel was built at the base of the Tower. It contains a Baroque altarpiece
with black polychrome made by J. Antonio del Monte Ortiz, in 1.708. The
central image of the Virgen de la
Soledad (XVIII century). Below we find the Holy
Sepulchre of XVII century. On the left Virgen de los Dolores
of Pascual de Mena (XVIII century), and on the right, María
Magdalena of Salvador Carmona.
16-TRASCORO

It is the
rear of the Choir, and is made up of three altars. Altar de las Animas, canvas
where a scene from Purgatory is represented. It continues with the Altar of the
Immaculate, in a Rococo style from 1764 and to finish the Altar of San Blas,
where the Holy Bishop dressed as a pontiff is represented.
17-CORO

It
is the oldest choir in Spain
which shows scenes. It is a work of the brothers and masters Egas Cueman
and Hanequín dated in 1.452 and in walnut tree wood. It was made for
the Cathedral of Cuenca, but in the 18th century the Belmonte Collegiate
Church bought it. It shows scenes the Old and New Testaments.
18-ÓRGANO

It
was made by Julian Alcarria in 1.718 of Spanish Baroque style.
The pipes were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War to make shrapnel
pieces. it has 960 tubes in total. In 1.992, it was restored by the
Desmottes brothers and paid for by donations of the town of Belmonte . Its performance
and sonority is great.
